Greetings everyone.
My name is David, and I live and work in New York City. Specifically, the borough of Staten Island. The one everyone forgets. I am a Lab Technician at a private ophthalmic practice. I basically make glasses and work with the machinery in doing so.
My internet callsign is Kyzersawsay. A rehash off of the character Kaiser Soze from the film The Usual Suspects. I generally use this for everything.
I first heard about BOINC and SETI@Home in my junior year of high school back in early 2012. I had a wonderful Physics teacher who did tutoring for NASA on the side. I took a college level course with him and it was touching on just general science topics and one of the topics we brushed on was Astrophysics and Extraterrestrials. He always loved the fact that when he would blurt off a random Star Trek reference I was the only one in the room that'd understand it. He mentioned SETI@Home to me and I thought it was cool and an amazing thing.
So, I installed BOINC in April of '12. At the time I had a Phenom II (Four Core) Processor in a machine I built myself and for a while I did the project and that was it. After three months of on and off using it I stopped around 52K credits. I kinda lost interest and forgot about it. That was about June or July of '12 this happened.
A few months back (April '17) I said to myself when I had an Eight Core AMD FX-8350 that maybe I should have it do something while I'm off at work. So I rediscovered BOINC and SETI@Home and realized there were so many more projects. I've been doing it again since. I upgraded to an AMD Ryzen Processor and love the capabilities of it. It was pretty entertaining coming home and my credits had jumped several hundred thousand from the Einstein@Home project. That since dried up for me and now being we have the SETI@Home Wow! Event going on, my machine has been doing SETI nonstop. Save for that one day where it was too hot to keep the machine running...
And that is where I am right now. I guess catching up to those "missed years" of cobbling.
