Hey all, I've been interested in cloud computing for a good while and ran accross boinc and the seti@home project looking for a cpu cooler of all things. Needless to say every computer I own except my Mac and pi 2 are now working on the seti project. Nice to be here.

Great! Welcome to the team and forum. You're just in time, in a few weeks the Seti WOW event will start. :D

thanks everyone, i patched my big tower together and can use it with integrated graphics, the graphics card took a crap, and i have my hp tower running as well, temps look ok for stock coolers, hopefully after a few paychecks the chieftec dragon tower will be running a new mobo,fx 3850 cpu, and a single 4 GB graphics card and 8GB of DDR3 for now.

I'm sorry to hear about your graphics card :(. Keep in mind that every little bit helps the team! It's good your keeping an eye on your temps, living in the Phoenix area during the summer, I have to keep a very close eye on temps. I'm not sure where you're located, but temps should always be monitored regardless of climate.

On a side note, please don't hesitate to ask questions. There's been a couple of times, where I thought my questions would seem silly, but I put aside my pride, and asked anyway. I've always received respectful, courteous, and very helpful responses to my questions :). This team has a wealth of information and are very active in the forums.

Welcome to the team and to the message boards! I'm a firm believer that every little bit helps: I don't crunch big numbers, but I do crunch every day and over time that adds up to some nice output for the team (and of course a lot of great science). I hope you stick with it through the heat and hardware issues, and continue contributing to team USA! I'd encourage you to check out the Formula Boinc and other challenge threads on the boards here; challenges are a great way to get in some friendly competition with the other teams.

sure thing, Ive joined the atreoid@home and have it running with SETI suspended for now, on the laptop running gtx1060 I'm also allowing new tasks from GPU grid

Be cautious running those projects on a laptop, GPUGrid does push the GPUs harder than most projects. Asteroids has an AVX app for CPU that can drive temps WAY high too.

I even got my pi running asteroid@home just cuz! And as for the laptop I have throttle keeping core temps in the 75-80C range and gpu at 70c. All the research I've done shows the intel i7 7700hq in the notebooks is good till around 100c and the 1060 in the 85c range, so far she's been running seti for about a week straight and just started gpugrid and asteroid. And put seti on pause. Looks like my peaks for gpu over an 18hr period was 74c and CPU max core Temp was 88c. I will be sure and keep an eye on everything though until I get my new tower built.
