I'm no guru but these cards don't seem nearly as compelling as Pascal did versus Maxwell. Even if they did, those prices are compelling me to stay away. I picked up a couple used 1080 Ti cards from Ebay instead. I'll be retiring my 1080 and waiting until whatever comes after these current 2080 cards before upgrading.

This was the plan until I got a deal on one of these. Of course, if I'd realized at the time it had 3 power connections and RGB lighting I can't shut off under Linux, I might have reconsidered. :p I had some issues with the cooling, finally figured out the main problem was weak fans on the radiator. There have been several complaints about how MSI installed the block, so I might have to look at that too eventually. I'll put it on GPUGrid when they start supporting 2080 series cards, for now it's running Prime Grid.

This was part of the problem, but the main issue turned out to be a weak or failing pump. I had added a CPU block to the loop and that extra resistance apparently was too much to overcome. Luckily I had a spare pump on hand, but long story short I'm going back to air on the CPU. GPU temps are not the best, but at least they're acceptable and I don't have to worry about thermal throttling now.
