Opt-IN for Credits

It's happened again. If stats are important to you, and you have credit with LHC@Home or any of its related projects, make sure to opt IN to keep your credit. This is probably going to be an ongoing issue for awhile, especially with the projects that are based in Europe. If you didn't opt in at Einstein I think your historical credit is gone for good. I'm not sure if that's the case for LHC also or if they will just stop exporting your stats until you opt in.

Keep an eye on the forum news feed and the Notices tab in your BOINC manager for other projects that might require this. I'll try to keep this thread updated as well. I don't crunch everything though, so if you think I've missed one feel free to post.

Willy over at BOINCstats is doing a good job of keeping up to date on this right on the homepage: https://boincstats.com/

As of now it reads:

"The following project require you to consent to exporting your statistics to stats sites. If you do not do so your data will be removed from the export and in accordance with the GDPR all your data from these projects will be removed from BOINCstats as well. This data can’t be recovered!

You need to consent before they enforce the setting in the export!

LHC@Home *

WUProp@Home

*Already enforced

Project owners: Please let me know in time when you add this setting so I can add your project to this list!"

Is the data being erased from the project's database or just not being exported? The data still exists at WCG but is just not visible to others. How are they handling members who don't exist anymore (inactive for long periods of time)? I assume their data is being removed as they didn't consent. WCG still has the data but it's being reported under an anonymous moniker so that team stats remain viable. If the other projects are removing the data, then there should be a tremendous amount of churn in team stats and rankings I would think. If the projects maintain the data but does not export it, does the historical data get exported if the user later decides to opt-in?

Apparently so, at least for Albert@home.
Albert@home was missing from my FreeDC stats page, after opting in the project & full credit total re-appeared on the stats site.

Add
NumberFields@home to the list...

GDPR IMHO accomplishes very little other than being a pain in the ass. Blocking BOINC credit exports does nothing to protect anyone's "personal data".

Universe@Home. I thought we'd already done it for this project but apparently not. It's a little hard to find, they're upgrading the server software now and the site isn't the easiest on the eyes.

Log in -> Universe@Home Preferences -> and it's Under Primary (Default) at the very top. Click Edit Preferences and check the box for "Do you consent to exporting your data to BOINC statistics aggregation Web sites?" , then Save.

Thanks for the heads up and the instructions--would have taken a bit to find that one.

You're welcome! The Universe site looks terrible after the upgrade. I can't be too critical after the problems I had with the forum move, but I can complain. We're still missing quite a few team mates in the stats, I've going to give it some more time and then start sending individual PMs.
