USA has been entered in the CRUNCHATHLON GPUGRID [MONTHLY RUN - RACE XLVII] sponsored by team CRUNCHERS SANS FRONTIERES.

Last month we did not participate due as the SETI@home WOW event was in progress.

The Challenge runs from 09/16/2018 17:00 UTC through 09/20/2018 17:00 UTC.

It appears that more work is coming down the wire for GPUs but here we are over half way through the CSF sponsored competition and yet I find it considerably difficult to secure enough GPU tasks to keep even one card crunching continually. Dr. Bob do you think it might do some good if you rattled their cage? However; reading on the GPU Grid page they seem to be short of help.
But then the question becomes---why hold a competition if we know that adequate work will not be available.

I had shut down two of my boxes because of heat but decided to operate them perhaps 50-60 percent of the time under supplemental air-conditioning but that is only partially successful because as I stated: the absence of GPU tasks. A little steam blown off. Bill
Today much cooler: only 94F

Starting to be a common problem during the monthly event. Since my fastest card is a 1050Ti I very seldom run dry. o_O

Sadly no, I don't have any pull on the project that would entice them to load more work.

I was down to a single 1080 Ti for this one, due to both heat and some hardware issues I just haven't had time to resolve. I had to stop halfway thru because it got too hot. I didn't get enough work to keep the card busy 100%, it did fall back to Prime Grid at times, but not for very long. I didn't have to use the automated update like for previous events. It probably helped that I was running two at a time. My main complaint was that I only got a couple really good credit jobs.

It's important to note that the project operators / scientists don't generally have anything to do with these competitions. They're almost always created and run by teams. Some projects are better at handling the increased demand than others, but in my opinion it's not really a project's responsibility to make sure they're creating work when a contest is running. It can definitely be frustrating though.
