Hello all, I have acquired an old dell inspirion 530 my neighbor was tossing out. I have scrounged up four 1GB pc2 memory sticks to upgrade the two 512 currently in it. I gave the neighbor his hdd back and slapped in a linux mint kde drive I had lying around. The pc is running an intel e4300 cpu and Im looking for a low end ati/radeon card for boinc. I have a pcie and pcie x16 slots but only a 300 watt psu.

Im looking towards an r7 350, r7 240 and an hd6570. The goal is under 75 dollars, but under 50 would be better.

Any recommendations and comments are welcome.
Thanks, TBox.

Definitely will be looking, currently running an nvidia nvs300 but so far no work has been put on that gpu even though it is configured using nvidia x server on the OS.

Check your BOINC start up log and make sure the card is recognized. If BOINC sees it then it's a project issue, the card might not be supported. I'd be leery of crunching with a fanless card anyway although that one uses so little power it might not matter.

I figured it out. I was using a 340.xx Nvidia driver. I had to downgrade to a 304.xx driver and she’s working. I was scared of the fabless as well, but everything I’ve seen temp wise hasn’t gone over 50c. I think max Power is like 12 Watts. I also installed a case fan that blows directly across the heat sink for the card.

lol especially on these 50 degree overcast days. i actually decided to sleep in the office on the futon, the fan noise and heat are perfect
